Workshop

Ahmadu Jarr (Jah) teaches courses in African rhythm, dance and song, and has toured extensively for the Swedish National Concerts and National Theatre. He is also in demand as a teacher on the international level, and has participated in the Creative Music Studio (CMS), Woodstock, U.S.A, during the summers of 1980-81. He is an active member of ISME, the International Society of Music Education, which holds its conference in different countries every other year.

Song, dance and music

Ahmadu Jarr´s workshops include song, dance and music. According to him, these are essential factors in all people.He also believes that good teaching involves a stereo technic where the teacher learns from the student and vice versa.

He holds courses for all levels and ages.In music schools he starts his workshops with song, dance and drumming before orchestra arrangements with the students. He believes that every musician, irrespective of what instrument he or she plays, must be able to dance and sing, not necessarily on a professional evel.With his own band, The Highlife Orchestra, he has the chance to teach ther musicians as they rehearse new tunes.The rehearsals are run as workshops here the musicians learn traditional music from West Africa. This makes the band something unique in Sweden!
